There is fierce competition for the different contracts that are available in the game, and players never quite know whether they have bidded enough to win the contracts. The reason that I like the game so much is that it has a pretty unique worker placement / blind auction system, where players place numbered cards on certain action on the board, but they are face down. Wednesday night, and I met with a few people from the local board game meetup to play one of my favourite eurogames, Bremerhaven. Despite feeling like some of the rules were a little clunky, I quite enjoyed the game I’d like to try it with five adventurers at some point, I can only imagine that the game gets better with a bigger number. It was too little too late, and we lost the game. Amie and I got split up after the dragon appeared, and I found myself in the awkward position of suffering from Immobilise and being attacked by creatures with ‘Reach 2.’ I was effectively out of the game for a while but was eventually freed from the status effect from Amie.

We lost Nikki quite early on, which was a shame, because she was our strongest character at that point.

We managed to take the spawn points out very quickly, but in doing so did not pay enough attention to keeping our hit-points to a comfortable level. The eventual aim is to defeat a boss dragon that eventually spawns in to the game if there are still spawn points left, the dragon will be much more powerful, so there is a motivation for the players to take them out as quickly as possible. I enjoyed the general idea of the game, forcing our way through the map and fighting off waves of enemies while trying to eliminate their spawn points. The components were awesome, especially the heroes they looked like something straight out of a Disgaea game. The other main difference was that the game is designed to be played as a single game rather than as a campaign. The game seemed to have a similar feel to Descent: Journeys in the Dark (Second Edition) only much lighter, with an anime / video game style theme.
